Virtual Savory Aperitif Class ✩

Grab a glass of wine and make some fabulous French aperitif treats! We’ll make three different savory snacks: cake sale, twisted cheese sticks, and olive “escargot”. Cake salé is popular savory appetizer in France, with the name meaning “Salty Cake”. It’s not really a cake at all besides the shape which comes from a loaf tin. It’s more like baked cheesy bread with a moist “cake-like” texture from the olive oil and milk added to the batter. Inside is a mix of whatever you’d like (cheese, olives, nuts, sundried tomatoes, chorizo, ham, pesto, mushrooms..vegetarian, or not!). I’ll give several different ideas with the recipes to help you come up with your own delicious snacking bread.

In this class, we’ll also learn how to make puff pastry from scratch using a simple method that will help us achieve those fabulous buttery layers in about 30 minutes! With this dough, we’ll twist it with comte or parmesan cheese, and roll it like “escargots” with olive tapenade inside.
